CHARACTER BUILD-UP
General Appearance/Physical Appearance:
Lorna is on the gamine end of the spectrum. She stands 5'2" with petite features and hourglass curves. Her slightly upturned blue eyes are often framed by glasses with rectangular faux tortoise shell frames (resembling reading glasses moreso than modern hipster glasses) for moderate myopia. Her shoulder-length, blonde hair has a slight wave, which she sometimes enhances with a curling iron.
Lorna is inconsistent about makeup application. Sometimes she wears light coverage foundation, a red lip, and black eyeliner; other times she doesn't bother with anything more than lip balm and moisturizer. Either way, she thinks she looks fine, and carries herself with confidence.
One could classify her taste in wardrobe as a blend of edgy, classic, and cozy. For practicality's sake, she selects pieces which easily mix and match rather than buying "outfits"—mostly in black, greys, and ivory. Think smart fitted jackets, soft oversized sweaters, obscure band tees, and high waisted skinny pants. For shoes she often goes with ankle boots with a one inch square heel to give her stature a little boost. A hat of some sort (a fedora, beanie, or beret) usually finishes her look.

Personality:
Personality:
Skeptical, cynical, yet open-minded and even-handed, in her public life, Lorna calls everything as she sees it. However in her private life she seeks solitude more often than conflict. The list of things and people that don't annoy her is not terribly long, leaving her inclined toward sour moods. To compliment her moodiness, she's usually a bit tired and lazy. The softness and warmth beneathe it all is revealed to a select few—chiefly her cat, Phaedrus, and her family.
Lorna has something of an addictive personality. For a decade she's "tried" to quit smoking on and off, but honestly she doesn't want to quit. Most days she only has one or two, which isn't that bad in her opinion. She eats a bag of baby spinach every day to "make up for it." She's also a junk food vegan, who rarely cooks anything more than a smoothie or her favorite muffins.
Skills/Abilities/Weapons/Powers:
●B.A. in Journalism
●broadcast automation system, control, and mixer boards technical skills (limited)
●guitar (intermediate hobbyist)
●weapon: carries pepper spray in handbag
History:
Lorna was an IVF child, raised in the optimism of the 1980s and 1990s by an unconventional single mom, Jennifer, and her widowed maternal grandmother, Betty. Her two parental figures, the owners and operators of an antique shop in Old Towne, doted on her and encouraged her to reach for the stars. Unfortunately they may have set her expectations a little too high. The path of her life seemed to be paved in disappointments and frustration starting the day her crush turned her down for prom.

After graduating high school, Lorna left home to study journalism at her second choice university, USC, where she graduated salutatorian in the class of 2005. She would have graduated in 2004, but interning for public radio and her desire to maintain her grades prevented her from taking a full load for several semesters.
The internship paid off despite the delay it caused. The full-time paid position they offered her, enabled Lorna to stay in Los Angeles, which she'd grown quite fond of after five years. Eventually she worked her way up from fact-checking and contributing human interest stories to hosting the station's weeknight political news and analysis program, The Round Table. Unfortunately due to cuts to public broadcasting funding during the last administration, NPR and local public radio stations were forced to cancel programs with higher budgets, The Round Table included.
Given the astronomical California rent prices, her remaining student debt, and a recent messy split with a narcissistic girlfriend, Lorna left the west coast and headed back to Blood Moon Valley to plan her next move. Driving her mom's handmedown beater and sleeping in her redecorated childhood bedroom, she helped her mom with the store and her grandmother for a time, while contributing articles to online news outlets, but she found her circumstances barely tolerable.
In early 2018 local late-night radio personality, Simon Chimes, ready for retirement, approached Lorna to take over his long running paranormal program on WERE "The Wolf," The Uncanny Valley. Doomsday cults, lizard people, men in black, Big Foot, time travel, cattle mutilations, crop circles, secret ancient bases concealed under two miles of Antarctic ice—The Uncanny Valley and its colorful call-in "expert" guests covered it all, Tuesday-Saturday 10PM-1AM. Lorna turned him down at first, but she needed the money to move into her own place.
After four years, her ratings are adequate, given the lousy timeslot, and the show has cultivated a small yet passionate following online via the usual streaming platforms—something Chimes never thought to persue.
Lorna misses politics, but given the stare of the world, she knows little green men and Nessie are probably better for her mental health. Her ambition remains however. She hopes to achieve national syndication in the next five years. She's currently single and living with her six year-old cat in a cute two bedroom, buttercup yellow townhouse in Cresent Circle, a block away from Old Towne.
